Before The Periodontal Surgery Shall Be Carried Out

For people with severe periodontal disease, periodontal surgery is required by the periodontist such as gingival flap surgery is a procedure in which the gums are separated from the teeth and folded back temporarily to permit the dental hygienist to be able to reach the root of the tooth and the bone. Gingival flap surgery is recommended especially when the gum infection has not been eliminated by non-surgical treatments such as scaling and root planing. Gingival flap surgery may also be done with another surgical procedure known as osseous or bone surgery. In preparation for the periodontal surgery, your periodontist will get rid of the built-up plaque and tartar from around your teeth. Then your dentist will make sure that you have a good oral hygiene. Before you may undergo a flap surgery, your dentist will first identify whether you are fit for a surgical procedure to be carried out basing on your general health and on your current medications.
